Field Engineer / Geologist

CDIM Engineering is seeking a field engineer or geologist to support us onsite at environmental / construction projects in and around the City of San Francisco. Position has high potential for personal, professional, and financial growth.

Job duties and responsibilities include:

  • Observation of construction activities for compliance with specified dust, tracking of dirt, housekeeping, noise, dewatering, storm water control, and other environmental mitigation measures

  • Establish and operate air monitoring station(s) with data logging dust monitors (with battery, enclosure, and modem)

  • Collect samples of soil, soil gas, groundwater, storm water, and/or air

  • Conduct spot check noise monitoring (daily) using a hand-held instrument

  • Attend construction progress meetings (in person or via conference call), as needed to discuss environmental issues and compliance improvements with mitigation controls.

  • Complete field daily notes documenting all above along with photographs of Site activities and mitigation measures.

  • Perform engineering design calculations and prepare drawings

  • Perform data compilation and evaluation, and prepare high quality technical reports and engineering design

  • Interface with senior personnel, clients, regulators, and subcontractors to ensure completion of project tasks on time and on budget

  • Promote a safety-conscious culture with staff and contractors.

  • Assist in preparation of project scopes and budgets

  • Take initiative to improve all aspects of business functions

Skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in: civil, environmental, or chemical engineering; environmental science; geology; or other related field

  • 1-5+ years of experience in the environmental or engineering consulting industry

  • Excellent independent professional judgement and interpersonal skills

  • Capable of communicating clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing

  • Skilled in GIS and/or AutoCAD, or the interest and ability to learn new software technologies

  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification

Salary range: $80,000 to $130,000

Staff / Senior Staff Environmental Engineer

CDIM Engineering, a growing environmental engineering and consulting firm located in San Francisco’s mid-market district, is seeking an energetic and versatile environmental engineer. The position is ideal for a motivated individual with a solid technical base and an interest in experiencing the breadth of the environmental engineering and consulting industry. We are a small and dynamic team offering a flexible work environment and abundant room for personal, professional, and financial growth.   

Skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in: environmental, chemical, civil, or mechanical engineering;

  • 0-3 years of experience in the environmental or engineering industries

  • Introductory knowledge of and experience with water quality, including contaminants, regulations, and treatment processes, with an emphasis on drinking water

  • Introductory knowledge of California and federal environmental regulations

  • Desire to work in the field at client and construction sites providing sampling, monitoring and oversight

  • Interest in supporting CDIM project managers in multidisciplinary environmental projects: water quality, remediation, sediment, air quality, regulatory compliance and civil design projects

  • Excellent independent professional judgement and interpersonal skills

  • Capable of communicating clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing

  • Some experience in GIS and/or AutoCAD, or the interest and ability to learn new software technologies

  • Perform field activities as needed including, but not limited to: construction verification inspections, drilling and construction oversight; compliance inspections; soil, soil gas, groundwater, storm water, and/or air sampling

  • Interface with senior personnel, clients, regulators, and subcontractors to ensure completion of project tasks on time and on budget

  • Assist in preparation of project scopes and budgets

  • Take initiative to improve all aspects of business functions

The position is based in CDIM’s San Francisco office and employees home office, and the successful candidate should expect regular travel to client sites throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

Project / Senior Project Geologist 

CDIM Engineering is seeking a geologist to support our clients in contaminated site projects. The ideal candidate will be a PG with 10+ years of experience managing environmental consulting projects. The work will involve providing support to existing CDIM clients in subsurface investigation, sediment, PCB, RI/FS, and vapor intrusion projects. The ideal candidate will have a versatile skill set that they wish to continue to expand. It is expected that the candidate will have an existing network of agency, driller, lab, technical specialist, and client (potential/existing) contacts to draw upon. From our San Francisco and Salem, Oregon offices, our current staff of seven professionals provide a diverse array of services to commercial and government clients with a focus towards contaminated site work, EHS compliance, water quality, and site civil engineering. We would like a motivated, high-integrity, seasoned professional to join our team to help expand the quality of our service offerings and our capacity and to become a long-term partner. In addition to a competitive salary, the position offers potential for significant financial growth (via company partnership/ownership) for a professional that helps expand our business.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $105,000 to $175,000, depending on qualifications and experience. Potential for significant additional compensation via profit sharing, bonus, and incentives based on performance.  

Primary job duties and responsibilities include: 

  • Develop new client relationships and expand on existing client relationships;

  • Use expert knowledge to provide overall quality assurance on CDIM projects involving environmental geology and hydrogeology;

  • Develop and manage scope, budget and schedule; oversee subcontractors; interface with senior personnel, clients, regulators, and subcontractors.  

  • Contribute to company business operations at a level commensurate with desire and skill set;

  • Plan, implement/oversee, and document field activities including drilling and soil, soil gas, groundwater, sediment and/or air sampling;  

  • Evaluate data to support conceptual site models, delineate the nature and extent of contamination, and modify and optimize long-term-monitoring programs; 

  • Support site assessment/remediation, hydrogeology, and environmental risk management studies and services in both the field and office; 

  • Support engineering remediation system design including vapor intrusion mitigation systems and other soil, soil vapor, and groundwater remediation systems; 

  • Perform various technical analyses and studies which may include database development and data manipulation, groundwater modeling, geospatial analysis; and,

  • Prepare technical reports, proposals and cost estimates.

Required skills and qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in geology; 

  • 10+ years of experience in the environmental industry; 

  • Professional license (PG); 

  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification; 

  • Knowledge of California and federal environmental regulations and experience with their implementation, including interfacing with regulatory agencies; 

  • Knowledge of and experience with environmental investigations and remediation technologies; 

  • Knowledge of soil and experience with water, soil and air quality, including contaminants, regulations, and treatment processes; 

  • Excellent independent professional judgement and interpersonal skills; and, 

  • Capable of communicating clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
